Results of the auction Artslimit online 9
The ninth online auction of fine art, which also featured attractive collector's items such as Rolex watches and Hermès, Chanel and Dior fashion accessories, peaked on Sunday, March 30, in the early evening.
The starting price of CZK 12,868,000 was increased to CZK 28,848,125. A total of 233 works were auctioned, and 211 items were sold. The auction was attended by 600 active bidders. The results demonstrate not only the ever-growing interest in online auctions, but also the ever-growing attention of collectors and admirers of fine art to quality works across periods and styles, often at lower starting prices than is usual at indoor auctions.
Josef Lada, a popular and sought-after collector, was represented at the auction four times. Three small gouaches on paper with an Easter theme were auctioned together and the new owner paid ten times the starting price of CZK 1,250,000 for them (starting price CZK 120,000). At the same time, it is also the most expensive item of Sunday's online auction. The gouache on paper titled "Huntsman" became the second most expensive item of the day, the buyer bought it for CZK 912,000.
The auctioneers were attracted by the oil on canvas by Oldřich Blažíček "Garden Restaurant in Kačina", which sold for CZK 700,000. The buyer paid CZK 650,000 for the oil painting "Blooming Riverbank" by the landscape painter Václav Radimský, which demonstrates the artist's anchoring in the tradition of French Impressionism. Alphonse Mucha's lithograph "Waverley Cycles" also attracted attention, selling for CZK 425,000, reaching four times the starting price.
The highest increase was recorded by the oil on canvas by the Italian painter Giuseppe Pogna from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries "Twilight". It exceeded the starting price of CZK 35,000 by more than twelve times. The painting was sold for CZK 437,500.
Works by Jan Zrzavý were auctioned three times. The most expensive was the pastel "The Annunciation" sold for CZK 443,750. The attention of the auctioneers was also attracted by the work of Jan Knap, a native of Chrudim and a successful student of Gerhard Richter, who became famous mainly on the foreign scene. His oil on canvas "Untitled" exceeded the starting price by seven times and was sold for CZK 381,250.
Olbram Zoubek was even represented at auction twelve times. The most expensive was the sculpture "Teacher and Student" auctioned for 462,500 CZK and the sculpture "Aunt", which was sold for 404,250 CZK. Traditionally, attention was also focused on four works by the important and highly sought-after artist Vlastimil Beneš. This time, the highest price was achieved by the oil on hardboard "Rooftops", which rose from the starting price of 50,000 CZK to 176,000 CZK.
The auctioneers also showed interest in the collector's gems of this auction, which included the iconic Rolex Submariner Date watch model. For the first time, a selected collection of iconic vintage handbags from famous fashion houses was also present. The most expensive was the limited model of the Birkin Casaque 35 handbag from the fashion house Hermès, which was sold for 393,750 CZK.
The first eight items were auctioned as part of a benefit auction. All works were sold and the proceeds of CZK 786,600 will be used to develop educational activities of the Czech non-profit initiative Save-Elephants. The unique collection of paintings by contemporary artists was inspired by an expedition to the Congo under the auspices of Save Elephants. The following artists captured their experiences on canvas: Alžběta Josefy, Adam Kašpar, Markéta Kolářová, Patrik Kriššák, Laura Limbourg, Martin Salajka, Vladimír Véla and Jan Vytiska.
