Auction 84th, Lot 92 Kamil Lhoták's playful piece is a great example of his pre-group work and does not appear on the market very often. Before Lhoták ideologically merged with Group 42 and fully turned his attention to the landscapes of the periphery, he created paintings with motifs of balloons or Rousseau like scenes from Paris and was enchanted by a time that had disappeared forever. In his works we can find a wonderful combination of nostalgia, longing and stories seen with hindsight which took place some time ago, in the times before his childhood. Even in his early works we can see civilian elements and his fascination with the beauty of everyday life, which irreversibly and fully engulfed his work. The pleasing painting takes the viewer into a moment of joyful merriment and excitement surrounding the arrival of a circus. The nostalgic scene is dominated by a high toboggan located on the beach, which attracts daredevils and fascinates a group of onlookers. The attractiveness of the work is increased by its reproduction in a publication on Lhoták's painting (L. Šteffek, Kamil Lhoták: paintings, Prague, 2017, p. 37). The painting is listed in the artist's list of works under the same name and number 146/21. Assesed during consultations by prof. J. Zemina and PhDr. K. Srp. Expertise by PhDr. R. Michalová, Ph.D. attached.
