Auction 84th, Lot 172 This smaller work, which however lacks none of the qualities of Medek's large canvases, is on the art market an unusual, but all the more interesting example of the artistic genius of this important personality, who is associated mainly with the unofficial art scene. Even though the smaller formats left the artist's studio mostly straight into the hands of the friends to whom he dedicated them, they were never marginal works. Medek was a great perfectionist who wouldn't allow anything that he was dissatisfied with or considered incomplete to leave his studio. The canvas of small dimensions belongs to the famous ensemble of Thirsty Angels. Here, too, Medek works with the basic element of a head, in this case placed on a delicate neck, which he treats in an almost architectural way.He places in the imaginary center his favorite motifs in the form of a trio of arrows and a large circular eye referring to bird's heads. This excellent work, despite its small format, looks monumental, and is the essence of the best that can be found in Medek's artistic expression. The dedication on the back of the painting proves that it was a wedding gift that Medek donated on April 29, 1971. The painting will be included in the author's monograph prepared by PhDr. K. Srp. Assessed during consultations by prof. J. Zemina and PhDr. J. Machalický. From the attached expertise by PhDr. K. Srp: "[…] The monochrome painting is a tightly constricted composition with a central black circle with an internally interconnected sign system, it is a complex Medek in a small format. […]".
