85th Auction, Lot 5 This work of masterful technique is a quality example of the paintings from a leading personality of the contemporary Czech art scene, Jaroslav Róna. This sought-after artist became famous as a great sculptor, who, among other things, was a head of the Sculpture Studio at the Prague Academy in 2005–2012. This painting, with its typical dense brushwork, can thus be understood also as the connection of two fundamental artistic disciplines for the author, painting and sculpture, into a perfect synthesis. The canvas becomes a space for shape studies, for experimenting with matter, colour, and finding new original solutions. It is the theme of glaciers, which Róna repeatedly deals with, that leaves him creative freedom without having to move from a concrete expression to an abstract one, and thus becomes a rather joyful excuse to play with the form itself. The work comes directly from the artist’s studio. 50% of the proceeds from this artwork will be credited to the account of the Bátor Tábor Foundation and will be fully exempt from auction fees.
