Twice a year KODL Gallery organizes announced auction days in the Great Hall of Prague's Žofín. The dates usually fall on the last Sunday in May and November. The auction day is preceded by a monthly pre-auction exhibition, which is open to the general public for free throughout May and November, directly at the gallery's headquarters on Národní třída.

The proceeds (often complete) from the auction of ten items are always transferred to the account of the non-profit organization Centrum Paraple or the non-profit organization Memory of the Nation.

How to bid at auction?

In person in the hall

The ticket to the hall is the auction catalog. Payments are made by card. We recommend the bidders to adjust the payment limit in a timely manner in order to avoid rejection of the payment by the bank. It is also possible to pay in cash up to the amount of CZK 250,000.

Interested parties must arrive at the auction no later than 30 minutes before the start for registration, during which proof of identity will be provided. The auction number is issued for a refundable deposit of CZK 500.

Individual items are auctioned in the order listed in the catalog. The auctioneer always tells you which work is being auctioned and announces the starting price. Interested parties then submit their price offers. Bid amounts are available in the back of the catalog.

The item is knocked down by the auctioneer to the highest bidder. An auction markup of 20% is added to the hammer price. The new owner has a time limit of 10 working days to pay for the work. The painting remains in the gallery until payment is made.

 

Fixed limit

Interested parties do not have to be present at the auction in person. They can authorize a representative of the gallery or another person. The interested party can set a so-called fixed limit, in which he clearly determines the amount to which he wants to bid for the given work. A representative of the gallery will then perform this action for him during the auction. The interested party is informed of his success or failure in the auction by telephone on the day of the auction.

Interested parties hand in the power of attorney in person or send it by email. The latest submission deadline is 12 noon on the day preceding the auction. In exceptional cases, it is possible to receive powers of attorney later.

Telephone auction

It is also possible to bid in person by phone through one of the gallery representatives. A representative of the gallery will contact the interested party during the auction and inform him of the events in the hall. According to his instructions, the given work is auctioned for him.
