Exhibition Kamil Lhoták

Exhibition starts:  1/19/2025, 23:00  |  Exhibition ends:  2/13/2025, 23:00

Kamil Lhoták (1912–1990) is undoubtedly one of the most popular and versatile Czech artists of the 20th century. Although he did not have any special academic training, he was in contact with art from a young age. Together with his mother, who was very close to the visual arts, he visited exhibitions of various authors, which significantly shaped his thinking about an artistic career. During his studies at the gymnasium, his artistic abilities began to manifest themselves, and at the end of the thirties he finally decided to pursue an artistic career.

From the beginning of his career, Kamil Lhoták was fascinated by a period that irretrievably disappeared several decades ago. The period of the late 19th and early 20th centuries accompanied practically all of his work, accented here more, there less.

The upcoming exhibition took viewers through a period of several decades and, through almost seventy exhibited works from private collections, allowed visitors to see the artist's development and his work in individual stages of creation. The curator of the exhibition was Libor Šteffek, the author of several publications and other documents about the work of Kamil Lhoták. The author's latest monographs Kamil Lhoták - A Thousand Paintings and Kamil Lhoták - Graphics and Works on Paper were also available on site. The exhibition was partly for sale.
